Live, Learn, Lunch — Yoga for Individuals Affected by Breast Cancer.
Yoga has been shown to be a powerfully positive intervention for individuals dealing with breast cancer. It may lessen physical and emotional challenges that arise due to diagnosis, treatment side-effects, and consequences in daily life and relationship. Physically, yoga has been shown effective in ameliorating inflammation, regulating cortisol, enhancing immune function, managing side-treatment effects (such as pain, nausea/vomiting, and lymphedema), and increasing strength, mobility, even bone mass. Emotionally, yoga may help diminish depression and anxiety, enhance sleep, manage fatigue, and decrease perceptions of stress. These encouraging findings support the importance of making yoga available in cancer care.
Live, Learn, Lunch is a monthly discussion sponsored by the SB BCRC on various topics designed to be inspiring while learning something new and relevant. All survivors and women on their journey with breast cancer are welcome to attend. This month’s event is about Yoga for Breast Cancer, with focus on an integrated holistic practice of yoga that considers the whole person and is adapted to the specific needs of people affected by breast cancer.
